Spring is in the air.  It's the season of outside time, bubbles, swimming pools, and fun picnics.

Don't get me wrong, we have our share of outside picnics during the spring and summer.  But let's keep it real -  most of our picnics?  They occur in the car.

Guest Post: Keeping Your Bathroom Ready For Seasonal Guests

There are some times during the year that your house will be busier than usual. This usually falls around seasonal events such as Easter or Christmas, and even certain dates during the summer. These are the times that you have family and friends over for gatherings such as meals and drinks, and even a few games here and there. You might get together to watch Wimbledon, the World Cup or the Olympic Games. Whatever the reason for your seasonal visitors, you will want your home to be ready for your guests.

For many of us this means doing a spot of cleaning, and a lot of tidying up (especially when there are kids in the house). There are some rooms that need to be cleaned more than others though, and the bathroom is probably the pick of the bunch. The bathroom will be used by most guests in your home, whether they are staying for a couple of hours or a few nights; therefore it is only polite to make sure it is suitable for them before they arrive. 

Here are a few tips on how to do just that:

Throw away empties

One of the easiest ways to make your bathroom look more presentable is by throwing away empty bottles and toilet rolls. Some bathrooms can look really cluttered when there is a build-up of nearly empty shampoo and conditioner bottles, as well as five years’ worth of toothbrushes on the counter. There will be things you use on occasion such as a hair mask or spa body butter bath - so keep the essentials out, and see whether you can put the rest in the cupboard for now.

Hang up some guest towels

Make your guests feel welcome by putting up some fresh towels for them to use, both in terms of their hands and their bodies. It is always a good idea to tell people that you have left towels for them so they don’t feel awkward about using them when it comes time for them to take a shower. Make sure to remove the used towels from the bathroom and put these in a washing basket until you have time to do the laundry.

Use disinfectant

When cleaning a bathroom you will want to make the counters and units as clean as possible, so use a suitable disinfectant. You will be able to use many products in the bath, sink, and on the toilet seat too, so ensure you read the label to find out where it can be used. There will often be directions so you can use it on floor tiles too.

Sweep the floors

Of course it makes sense to sweep the floors before you mop or disinfect them though. Bathrooms are notorious for having quite a lot of bits on the floor such as hairs and flakes of skin; this isn’t the nicest thing that could greet your guests when they arrive! Grab a broom or a dust pan and brush to tackle the problem.
